WALNUT – Long-time Walnut Elementary School Principal Timmy Bryant died Monday morning at Magnolia Hospital in Corinth, sources said.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday at McBride Funeral Home in Ripley. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at McBride Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Tiplersville Cemetery.

Bryant, 46, had been principal at the school for 12 years, school officials said earlier this year.

A Timmy Bryant Memorial Fund has been established at the Peoples Bank. Anyone wishing to contribute can do so at any Peoples Bank location or send contributions to The Peoples Bank, attn. Timmy Bryant Memorial Fund, PO Box 38, Walnut, MS 38683.

North Tippah Superintendent Junior Wooten said the elementary school held classes as usual Monday, and did not dismiss early. No classes will be held at Walnut today.

Wooten said he would be in charge of the elementary school until other arrangements are made.

He said grief counselors will be available for students.

Walnut Elementary School, located next to the high school, has a population of about 221 students in grades K-6.
