DUMAS – A car-motorcycle collision Saturday night on County Road 603 near Dumas which claimed the life of the cyclist remains under investigation, the Tippah County Sheriff’s Department said Monday afternoon.

Jonathan “Jon” Wade Wallace, 21, of Dumas, was pronounced dead at the scene after his eastbound motorcycle collided with a westbound Nissan Maxima driven by Janet Newman, believed to be in her late 50s, of Tiplersville, according to a Tippah County deputy.

Newman sustained a cut to her ear and leg and complained of abdominal pain following the crash. She was transported to Tippah County Hospital by her husband. Efforts to learn her condition Monday afternoon weren’t successful.

Both Wallace and Newman were alone at the time of the crash, which was reported about 8:37 p.m. No helmet was found at the scene. No charges have been filed. A Mississippi Highway Patrol accident reconstruction officer has been assigned to the case, the deputy said.
