BLUE MOUNTAIN — A state investigation has cleared former Blue Mountain City Clerk Bonnie Orman of an embezzlement allegation, according to records from the Office of the State Auditor.

According to state records, on Sept. 18, 2007, the Office of the State Auditor received a complaint against Mrs. Orman alleging embezzlement.

An investigation was opened that day, and the case was assigned to an Investigative Division Special Agent.

The agent conducted interviews, took statements, reviewed financial records, and researched documents consistent with a civil/criminal investigation.

According to the agent’s report, “After a thorough investigation of the complaint it was determined that there were some internal issues. However, there was no determination that funds were missing.”

The case was closed on June 10 of this year.

Said Mayor Doug Norton Tuesday morning: “The mayor and board of aldermen are pleased with the outcome of this investigation.”

Mrs. Orman, who was city clerk and court clerk, was terminated by a 5-0 vote following a Monday, Sept. 17, 2007 special meeting of then- mayor Edward Burge and the Board of Aldermen.

The reasons given for the termination were failing to efficiently perform the duties of the two offices, not making daily deposits of monies collected each day, and failing to properly prepare and execute minutes of board meetings.

She had worked for the town about seven years.
