The 93rd edition of the Tippah County Basketball Tournament – starting a bit later than usual this year -- gets under way later this week at Walnut High School. The tourney was postponed earlier this month due to icy roads.

The opening round begins Saturday, Jan. 30, with second round action to be played Monday, Feb. 1. The championship games will be played the following Saturday, Feb. 6.

For fans of Tippah County basketball, it doesn't get any better. This is a chance to see all the county has to offer in one tournament, with a year's worth of bragging rights going to the winners.

Of course throughout the season these county teams play each other, but those contests don't draw the attention of the entire county. Ten teams, five boys’ teams and five girls’ teams, will compete to claim the crown of Tippah County Tournament Champion.

We salute the hard work and dedication put in by all the athletes, coaches, and school officials participating in the Tippah County Tournament. Their efforts are appreciated by fans and supporters.

We encourage everyone to support our county basketball teams. Make it to Walnut later this week, and cheer for your favorite team.
