Break-ins at RHS, RMS under investigation

Ripley police are investigating pre-dawn Friday break-ins and thefts at Ripley High School and Ripley Middle School.

Police have recovered many items taken from both break-ins.

There have been no arrests, Police Investigator Scott Watson said.

Both schools were closed Thursday and Friday due to bad weather.

Watson asked that those with information about the break-ins contact a teacher or police.

More than one person is believed to be involved in the break-ins, which were reported just after midnight Friday.

A window on the north side of the Middle School was broken out to gain access to the building.

Cellphones, watches, billfolds, keys a computer from the high school and other items were taken from both schools. Many of the stolen items were later found strewn ac ross the pavillion area of Kids World, located about a hundred yards west of the school campus.

A the high school, computer equipment, interior windows and several classrooms were also damaged.

Inside the school, the main office window was smashed. In the principal's office, a heavy closet door, a glass desk cover and a computer monitor were smashed. A pipe threader was found at the scene.

Four of five classrooms at the high school were also ransacked.

Although the school offices contain numerous records and personnel files, none of them were disturbed.
