RIPLEY – In their last regular meeting as a board, Ripley’s mayor and aldermen took care of the following items of business. There to watch were mayor-elect Kerry Hill, as well as aldermen-elect Joe Bryant of Ward 1, Homer Richardson of Ward 2, and Lonnie Smith of Ward 3.

Ward 1 Alderman Sherill McCoy was absent from the meeting.

The board:

--Approved the regular May meeting minutes, as well as minutes of a special May 21 meeting.

--Approved several city employees and future city employees attending the MMML Conference in Biloxi July 12-16. Those signing up to go include Kerry Hill, Joey Bryant, Lonnie Smith, Homer Richardson, Lisa Mauney, Kathi Watson, Robin Vernor, Wade Crawford, Bonnie Caviness, and Kevin Hall.

--Approved North Half Constable Terry Mathis serving warrants for the City of Ripley when South Half Constable Keith Bullock – who normally does that job – is unavailable.

--Chose Alderman-at-Large Bonnie Caviness to be the city’s MML voting delegate, and chose Wade Crawford and Kerry Hill as first and second alternates.

--Approved a MDOT-required Title VI non-discrimination forum that bars discrimination in contracts entered into by the city.

--Approved participation in the Mississippi Municipal Liability Plan, which obtains free bonds for aldermen.

--agreed to advertise to set a public hearing on cleaning up a Huddleston Drive property for the board’s July meeting. The property is owned by Guerrero Sarafin Gonzalez, according to city records.

--At the request of Alderman Randy Windham, agreed to name a street off Moore’s Mill Road as Lindsey Cove.

--Approved giving Casey Martin, a City Gas Department employee, his operator’s pay.

--Accepted a written letter of resignation effective May 31 from Tate Paul, who was assistant superintendent of the Street Department

--Approved making Kathi Watson a deputy clerk for the city. The title is in addition to her current job as City Court Clerk and secretary to Mayor Harrison.

--Heard a financial report from Stephanie Clifton of Lindsey, Davis and Associates. The report contained no "findings" – a word Mayor Harrison joking defined as meaning "we didn’t break the law."
