Donations to South Tippah schools top $16K

RIPLEY – The South Tippah School Board took care of the following items of business during its February meeting Monday night, Feb. 9. Trustees:

--Approved claims dockets and financial statements.

--Approved the summary statement of fixed assets.

--Approved a series of donations. They included: $15,000 cash donation from Ripley Middle School PTO for Ripley Middle School; $30 from Ann Carmack for Ripley Middle School;

$500 from the Ripley Band Boosters for artwork for the band at Ripley High School; $500 from Cindy and Johnny Coombs for an alumni scholarship at Blue Mountain; $50 from Lula Owen for an alumni scholarship at Blue Mountain; $50 from Volene Taylor for an alumni scholarship at Blue Mountain; two love seats and two captain’s chairs from Blue Mountain Furniture- Greg Yates for Blue Mountain;

--Approved a Valentine candygram fundraiser for Pine Grove.

--Approved field trips by Blue Mountain students to Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Blue Mountain College, Northeast Mississippi Community College, Healthworks in Tupelo, and a field trip by Pine Grove students to Tupelo.

--Approved the following as substitute teachers: Mackenzie Hill, Katherine Waldon, Regina Johnson, all at Ripley Elementary School; Savannah Rogers and Regina Pate at Ripley Middle School; and Christina Martini at Pine Grove.

--Approved the district’s 2009-2010 calendar, which includes 182 student days, 189 teacher days, and two snow days. The first day of school for students is Wednesday, Aug. 5.

--Approved the district’s 2009-2010 salary schedule for new personnel.

--Took no action on the annual agenda calendar.

--Heard the Superintendent’s report, learned the annual Pine Grove spaghetti supper will be held Friday, Feb. 27, learned that Feb. 15-21 is School Board Appreciation Week. In connection with the week, each board member received a gift certificate from County Inn Too.
